What this is
I find small businesses that make something good and have nowhere to send people, and I build them a website for free. Nobody is asked first. The site is a gift — there is no invoice coming, no trial period, no card on file, and no obligation created by accepting it or by ignoring it.
It comes with no promises
The site is provided as it is. There is no guaranteed uptime, no guaranteed maintenance, no promise it will be updated, and no promise about what it will do for your business — not visitors, not search ranking, not sales. If you want guaranteed attention rather than whenever-I-get-to-it, that is what the paid options are for, and they are described on your site's page.
Who owns what
- Your business is yours. Your name, your recipes, your products, your reputation — none of that changes because a website exists.
- Your domain is yours. If you buy one, you buy it in your own name on your own card. It is never registered to me and I cannot take it from you.
- The build and the hosting are mine. Paying for design changes or monthly upkeep does not transfer them. That is how the free ones stay free, and it is said here rather than discovered later.
If you ever want to leave, take your domain and go. You keep your address, your search ranking, anything printed on a card or a sign, and every customer who already knows where to find you. You would be leaving a build behind, not your business.
Nothing here is official
A site built here is not operated by, endorsed by, or affiliated with the business it features unless that business says so. It is an unsolicited gift and can be disowned instantly.
Ending it
Either side can end this at any time. You can have the site removed the same day at no cost, for any reason or none — see content and removals. I may also stop hosting a site, in which case you keep your domain and lose nothing you paid for.
Content on these sites
Sites are built from material businesses have already made public. If something on one is yours and you want it changed or gone, it is removed the same day, no proof and no argument required. That is set out on the removals page and it applies to business owners, photographers and reviewers alike.
Liability
These sites are given away for nothing, and they are provided without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for losses arising from a site being up, being down, containing a mistake, or being removed. If something is wrong, tell me and I will fix it or take it down — that is the remedy on offer, and it is free.
Paid work
Anything paid — design changes, monthly upkeep, help getting a domain — is agreed directly at the time, and whatever is agreed then takes precedence over this page.
Changes
If this changes, the date at the top changes with it.
